Press J to jump to the feed. The model is AT9010-52E and the Movement Caliber is H820 if that helps (sorry I'm new to high end watches, so any other info I can provide that would help I can get that). If it makes a difference I used time.gov to set the time for my time zone (New York). I tried to do so yesterday, and it just sat on RX for a long time and nothing ever happened.
I let it sit north-west facing (seems the North America server is north-west relative to me) near a window overnight since it's supposed to sync overnight at around 2AM. So it keeps failing to contact the server. For reference, there are tree's near me, and I am in a cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill, but even that shouldn't affect it that badly right. I'm worried that even if I go to a completely open area elsewhere that even if it syncs now it wouldn't sync again at night. I don't want to have to go outside every time I want the watch to sync. I am considering trying another all-reset but even now I don't know if that'll do it (plus being that I've done that once I don't want to risk messing up the watch). Citizen CS is still closed, but even then I don't know what they'd say to do outside of the all-reset (unless there is some secret function I'm missing). I've tried to search for this problem on the internet and in the manual but I cannot find a solution and I'm starting to get a little frustrated being that this is the first high-end watch I've ever bought and it's not working right. I don't want to return it, thus I am here hoping someone can help me out with the problem. Quick replies are appreciated, Thanks. In general you're probably not going to be able to get a signal in the day time this far away. The reason the watch syncs automatically at 2 AM is because radio signals can travel further at night due to atmospheric conditions. The manual states that the watch will not synchronize if the battery level is too low. What is the charge level. The radio signal only reaches so far, and if you're in a relatively urban area there can be lots of interference with the signal. Sometimes it can take several nights for a successful sync even under good conditions. If you've already done the all reset there's no reason to do another one, give it a few nights and see if it catches up.
Like I said I'm at the bottom of a cul-de-sac with a lot of trees near by so I'm sure that's affecting it to a degree. Is there somewhere specific in the house I should place it. Right now I have it facing towards the server (North-West to me) and it was in my computer room but nothing was on at the time. I'm honestly not too knowledgeable with radio signals so thanks for letting me know. I'm assuming eventually it'll catch the signal, but once it does will it continuously do so. I don't want to have to go out in a more open area to get a signal every time. However, I'm in California -- with a distance of around half the range -- and my reception can sometimes be iffy. For me, placing the watch in a window facing in the general directory of Colorado often works, but not always (see next item). Normally, being in at the bottom of a cul-de-sac shouldn't be an issue but, being in New York on the eastern seaboard, you're nearing the max range of the signals. (This is especially important) Furthermore, for proper signal reception, the watch should also be kept away from any and all electronics. I don't know if the newer LED light bulbs can interfere with the signals, but I'd guess that they do, too. Old incandescent bulbs are fine, unless there is a light dimmer in use. Motors that are turned on (e.g., vacuum cleaners) can also interfere with reception. Edit: I seem to have reading comprehension issues today. I'll try to keep it in a room with the least amount of possible interference and see what happens the next few nights. Hopefully it'll work itself out, I just don't want this to be a repeat thing and make having a RC watch useless for me so guess I'll check it out the next few days and see what happens. Thanks for the info though, was actually very informative. Better than Casio and Seiko. A few things from my experiences. There's too much noise during the day to interfere with proper reception so don't bother with manual syncs until after midnight.
Even at night, you won't always have successful sync just because of random interference. Make sure your hands are aligned correctly. This should have been part of the reset procedure. Make sure you have the setting for Standard Time Auto for automatic receipt. MAke sure your home timezone is correct for NYC. If all the settings are correct, you may have to try resting the watch in differnt locations for best reception as you may have some local interference. Citizen has always worked well for me anywhere in my house, but with Casio and Seiko I had to search for hotspots where they were more likely to have successful receipt. I have it set to SMT-AU (which is what the manual states to do when unable to receive radio signal to get into day light saving time and it says once signal is received it would adjust itself accordingly). When I tried changing it to SMT-MA (manual standard time I assume) the time went backwards an hour (which seems odd.) so maybe something there is messed up. It should have gone forward an hour right. If you continue to use this site we will assume that you are happy with it. Ok. We do not have any instructions for other brands outside of Howard Miller and Seiko clocks. We hope you will enjoy the convenience of never having to set your clock again and the confidence of knowing exactly what time it is. Since the beginning of time, man has been fascinated with the measurement of time and has devised more accurate machines to trap and measure time. Today, time is precisely measured in the United States by the most accurate clock in North America, the Atomic Clock of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, Time and Frequency Division in Boulder, Colorado. A team of atomic physicists continually measures every second of every day to an accuracy of ten billionths of a second per day. These physicists have created an international standard, measuring a second as 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a Cesium 133 atom in a vacuum. This atomic clock regulates the WWVB radio transmitter located in Fort Collins, Colorado, where the exact time signal is continuously broadcast throughout the United States at 60 kHz to take advantage of stable long wave radio paths found in that frequency range. Radio waves at these low frequencies use the earth and the ionosphere as a wave-guide and follow the curvature of the earth for long distances. A microprocessor activates the receiver and processes the time signal from Fort Collins overnight. The changeover from standard time to daylight savings time, and vice versa, takes place automatically with the same precision. Due to the nature of long wave radio signals it is normally not possible to receive a signal during the day so it is best to install the battery late in the evening.
Select your time zone by pressing one of the four time zone buttons PT-Pacific Time, MT-Mountain Time, CT-Central Time, ET-Eastern Time. The time zone buttons may be pressed any time after installing the batteries. If multiple buttons are pressed the clock will set to the time zone selected last. If no time zone is selected the clock will default to Pacific Time. Another time zone can be selected during or after the clock has set itself. Your clock can only set itself to one of the four time zones stated above. For time zones outside of PT, MT, CT or ET you must manually set the time using the Manual Time set button on the back of the movement. Your clock will no longer observe DST. Simply insert the battery, press your time zone and then press the flap just above the left side of the battery. Hold until you reach the correct time and then release. Your clock is now an accurate quartz clock until it will find the signal. Your Atomic clock will still continue to look for the signal and start adjusting itself automatically. The clock is now searching for a signal. For the initial setting, it is recommended to stand the clock in an upright position near a window. Within five minutes the clock will either receive the WWVB signal and set itself to the exact time, or it will determine that the signal is not receivable at its current location and time of day. If a signal is not receivable it will fast-forward the hands to the 4, 8, or 12 o’clock position and search for WWVB each hour until a signal is received. If the time is manually set the clock will continue to periodically search for a signal and automatically reset the hands when the signal is received. The optimal location is near a window. Windows facing Colorado providing the best signal. The WWVB time signal will easily penetrate Masonry and wood-framed buildings. WWVB will penetrate almost every residential building and most steel buildings if they have adequate windows.
It is not possible, however, for WWVB to penetrate most indoor shopping malls and rooms in the center of large office buildings that do not have windows. In buildings that WWVB cannot penetrate you may set the time using the manual time set button. When the clock is exposed to the WWVB signal it will automatically set the hands to the exact time. Our Radio Controlled clocks can be manually set and used anywhere. This means the clock is now looking or waiting for the signal and the clock movement is good. If you release the button at the incorrect time, take the battery out and start again. These clocks will automatically continue to check and adjust after April 1. If the clock receives a clear signal it will set itself perfectly. If it does not receive a signal consider the following: It should be at least six feet from computers, TVs, air conditioners, other Radio-Controlled clocks and other electrical appliances that cause interference. To reactivate the DST program simply press the DST button again for one second. If your clock is located in an area with little interference The operating voltage range is 1.25 to 1.75 volts. He also mentioned he wanted a watch that was dressy enough for formal events. This watch fit the bill. I looked at many reviews of other ecodrives and it seemed the lower ratings were generated from watches that lacked certain features. Mostly lack of high quality materials and date having to be manually reset for months less than 31 days. This watch addressed all these items.
My husband is on the skinny side and I worried this watch was too big. It ended up looking good though I would not want to go bigger. He loves that it has so many features built in like the signal to the atomic clock. Overall highly recommend. Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2013 Classy, very easy on the wrist, heavy but watch finds a snug place on my hand - then I dont even feel it. Chronograph is nice, easy to use - played with it for some time, world time settings work neatly without tiring the eyes (or the mind). Not a feature rich watch. The radio control feature handles the calendar as well as the time, so you don't have to fuss with resetting for different numbers of days in a month. I note that several people have asked about this. Days of the month, days of the week, and leap year are all handled fully automatically. There is something about having absolutely perfect timekeeping on your wrist that is addictive. I have other, more expensive watches, but I can't take the radio-controlled ones off and be comfortable somehow. The stopwatch on this one is good: it measures up to 60 minutes in fractions of a second. The world-time feature is as good as it gets. Changing time zones and managing daylight savings time are easy and intuitive. There is no timer or alarm with a tone or chime. I use my phone for those functions most of the time anyway. As with all radio-controlled watches and clocks that I've used, the radio-sync feature is a bit hit-or-miss on the first time in a new location. Normally, after a sync works once, it will work reliably in the same vicinity. Syncs occur automatically after midnight every night. To get this one going, I initiated three syncs manually. The third time was the charm. I need no special placement, etc. If you're undecided, I recommend you go to the Citizen website and download the manual. There is also a video that goes over some setting procedures. To find manual and video, follow the Support link on the Citizen website. You'll need the movement caliber number, which is H800 (that's the secret handshake). I'm going to run over the basics. The chrono stopwatch function is the same as on most modern watches. With the crown all the way down, you press the upper right button to go into chrono mode. Push it again to start the stopwatch. Push it again to stop. Push the lower right button to reset to zero. Push the lower right button again to get out of chrono mode, which puts the second hand back in its normal timekeeping motion.
If you buy one of these or a similar model, I suggest you NOT experiment with the buttons. It's worthwhile to follow the manual. That's why I start some of those sequences by reminding you to have the crown pushed in. You can get things really out of whack if you start holding buttons down with the crown pulled out. If you do, there is a reset procedure that works, but it takes several steps. The online video covers it as do the condensed manual and full manual, all accessible online, so you don't need to be fearful. I have my own way of keeping my watches charged. I suspend them inside a lamp shade with a 40-watt-equivalent fluorescent coil bulb. The fluorescent bulb is cool enough (and energy efficient). I use a bent paper clip. An hour or so of that gives me months of charge. These watches will not overcharge so you don't have to worry about forgetting them in sunlight or in a jury rig like mine. You definitely do not want them to get hot, however. I will say that having them so close to a fluorescent bulb probably keeps them from being able to sync in that location. Everyone I've run across that has one of the Citizen radio-eco watches, agrees that they are addictive. I think that's interesting in an age in which everybody has a timekeeping cell phone. Even the cell phones aren't this accurate all the time. For me, these watches are six stars. Please try again later. Please try again later. Guessit 5.0 out of 5 stars Citizen discontinued this watch a year or more ago, and very few retailers still have one. She found mine locally at a well known jewelry store at a super price. This is my second Citizen Eco-Drive, and far more feature rich than the one I've used for several years as my daily beater AND dressy wrist piece. That one, by the way, is built like a tank and never once failed me. This one is also far more elegant. I've looked at two-tone watches for quite some time, but all have had a garish, cheap, flashy appearance. And that just isn't for me.
